Tanzanian Farmer checks soybean plants
Jovina Ponela counts nodules on soy bean roots to help predict the upcoming harvest during a farmer field school session in Nakahegwa, Tanzania. The school is part of CRS's Soya ni Pesa (Soybeans are Money) program, a USDA-funded project which links smallholder soy bean farmers with markets. The project helps farmers gain bargaining power by supporting the formation of marketing groups that pools their harvest to offer buyers large quantities. The Farmer Field School helps farmers to improve their crop yields by teaching them new techniques.
